Project Spices helps coffee farmers in Nicaragua and Honduras transition to organic spices such as ginger, turmeric, and cardamom. Through this diversification, we restore biodiversity and strengthen farmers’ incomes.
Thanks to agroforestry and organic certification, farmers produce pesticide-free, premium-quality spices for the global market. This provides them with stable sales opportunities and a fairer, higher income. At the same time, the soil becomes healthier, more fertile, and more resilient to disease and erosion. With your support, you invest in sustainable agriculture and fair trade. Read more in our information brochure.

Frequently asked questions
How did the pilot campaign go and why is the project re-opening?
Last year, we launched a pilot campaign for Project Specerij. During the campaign, we raised our target amount of 148,000 euros.
New projects on our platform always go live first via a pilot campaign. If this is successful and the project partner handles the money raised properly, we will consider a continuous campaign. This happened with Project Specerij, and that is why we are going live again.
Who buys the spices?
There is a growing demand for organic spices. Ginger, cardamom and turmeric in particular have attracted a lot of attention in recent years due to their many health benefits. In addition, stricter requirements apply to the quality and traceability of spices.
Thanks to its high quality and various certificates and quality marks, project partner Doselva has partnerships with major international customers, including Green Shutter Teas (Starbucks’ purchasing partner), Gaia Herbs, and Nature’s Pride.
How is this project sustainable?
The various spices are grown organically using agroforestry. This involves combining different crops and trees on the same piece of land. This agricultural method increases the soil’s capacity to absorb CO₂, improves soil quality, makes it less susceptible to disease and promotes crop yields.
