10 reasons why you should invest in trees
Would you like to start investing or explore ways to expand your investment portfolio, but do you wonder where to start? We know the problem. Finding reliable investments is a challenge, but let us point you in a new direction: have you ever thought about investing in trees? Here are 10 reasons why we believe you should consider it.
Savers are losers
You were probably raised with the idea that frugality pays off. That’s understandable when you consider that savings rates in the 1980s and 1990s fluctuated between 5% and 11%. Those times, however, are over. Today, savings rates are at historically low levels. If you want to make a return, or simply maintain your purchasing power, you’ll have to invest.
Investing as a ‘hedge’ against inflation
Savings have become meaningless and inflation has risen to around 5.2% in 2021 and is expected to rise further. What exactly does that mean? Quite simply said: your money will be worth 5.2% less every year. That might not sound like much, but be aware that with these figures, the value of your savings halves in less than 10 years! Only by investing in something that gives you a higher return than 5.2% can you counteract this loss of purchasing power.
You’ll reforest land that has been lying fallow for years
We have thought about it for a very long time and can only think of two situations in which it is not a good idea to plant trees:
- When you chop down other trees to enable it and
- When you could better use the land for growing food.
That is why we only plant our trees on land that does not allow the growing crops and that has been deforested for over a decade.
Your trees will create a passive income
Making money passively may sound like a dream, but once you start it becomes easier than you think. Earn money while you sleep? With Corekees you can. Quite a lot to be honest: we calculated average returns of 7.8% to 8.5% per year over a 20-year term.
You will offset your CO2 and can even become carbon neutral
On average, our Pongamia trees offset about 44 kilograms of CO2 per tree, per year. By comparison, that is twice as much as an adult oak tree! The average Dutchman emits about 9000 kilograms of CO2 per year. This means that if he plants 205 trees with us, he will be CO2 neutral for the next 20 years.
You create jobs for people in South America
For example: for our Field Operations Manager: the Paraguayan soccer legend Federico ‘Fredy’ Montoya! Or for the dozens of women who work on the cuttings and the seedlings of the Pongamia trees: their fine motor skills are generally better than those of the men and this allows them to perform this important work very accurately.
You help Paraguayan farmers create a supplementary pension
In the Netherlands, we have it good. Chances are that your employer enrolled you into a reliable pension fund that helps you save and invest for when you grow older. Imagine that you were born as a farmer in the Paraguayan Chaco. Wouldn’t it be nice to build up to something for your old age as well? At Corekees, we leave our land from local farmers. At the end of the term the land, the valuable trees we plant on it and the proceeds from those trees go back to them.
You are producing an alternative to fossil fuels
Reluctantly, you consume a considerate amount of fossil fuels yourself. Wouldn’t you like to contribute to producing a sustainable alternative? We guess you will! By investing in Pongamia trees with Corekees, you are helping to create a sustainable alternative to fossil fuel. The nuts from our trees are harvested and pressed annually, and the resulting oil is refined into biofuel, a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels.
We waste nothing. Our residual product is processed into sustainable livestock feed
Recently, we published an article about the disaster called Palm Oil and Soy plantations are not much better. Many of these soybeans are processed into cattle feed, but there are much better alternatives available. The seedcake that remains after pressing Pongamia nuts for instance! This product is very rich in protein and makes for sustainable cattle feed. That’s why we also sell the seedcake. In fact, a large part of the return mentioned at point 4 comes from selling this residual product!
Trees are a great addition to your portfolio
The classic stock market wisdom says that you should not put all your eggs in one basket. We completely agree with this and therefore we advocate that you diversify your portfolio and invest only a portion of your money with us. Investing in trees at Corekees is a great complement to shares, crowd loans, your own company, or house or your personal and professional development.
Conclusion
Do we really have to state the obvious? I guess not. Trees are the future, quite literally. Are you curious about the possibilities or do you wish to learn more about our Pongamia project? Download the brochure here or contact us for more information.
